Bandaranaike International Airport

Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), formerly known as the Katunayake International airport (KIA) and Colombo International Airport (CIA). It is located approximately 27 Km North of the Commercial Capital of Sri Lanka, Colombo. It was named after the former Prime Minister S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike. It is one of the major airport  other than the recently constructed Mattala International Airport located in Hambantota in the deep South of Sri Lanka. It is administered by Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Ltd and serves as the  hub of Sri Lankan Airlines, the National Carrier of Sri Lanka

The recently renovated runaway is able to land large wide bodied aircraft like the latest A380 aircraft, which is one of the largest aircraft in the world. This is a significant milestone for the aviation industry in Sri Lanka.

The airport consists of three passenger terminals where terminal 1 and 2  are for Arrivals and Departures whist the Terminal 3 serves primarily for domestic destinations.

The BIA airport provides a wide variety of services for the convenience of passengers on arrival and departures such as a 24 hour Duty free shop, Restaurant, Commercial Banks run by the state and private sector, Post office and a mobile phone rental booth at the arrrivals terminals.

There is a separate counter for entrance tickets for the  convenience of visitors who come to receive the passengers on arrival. Other facilities include a First class lounge and left luggage facilities.
