Kalpitiya is one of the “Off the beaten track sites”  consisting of 14 islands, located in the Puttalam district in the North Western province of Sri Lanka. It is rich in its bio-diversity and home to a range of habitats like mangrove swamps, bar reefs, flat coastal plains, saltpans, salt marshes and vast sand dune beaches. It is currently being developed as a tourist destination by the Government of Sri Lanka.

The Alankuda beach located in Kalpitiya is home to a number of hotels and tourist resorts. Kalpitiya beach serves as a starting point for off shore Whales and Humpback Dolphin watching.

Kalpitiya is also considered as the best location for Kite surfing in the island.
